The key I found is you want a base layer that will wick moisture, mid layer that is an insulating material and your outer layer is considered your protection layer ex. Wind and water proof. A good warm hat, face mask/ neck gaiter, gloves. I also found that my feet would sweat in my boots when I was making the drive from home to the land I would be hunting. I started to wear tennis shoes when driving. Lastly I usually put my outer layer on when I got to where I was going to hang my stand. Worked for me in Iowa winter.
