Ryegrass would be easy to establish and the deer would like it, but it will die out with hot weather. Fescue will live year round, but not very attractive to deer. No throw and mow recommendation has been mentioned yet? I’m speechless.. That’s what you can do with Fescue. The mulch will help hold down weeds and woody for a little while. There will be enough soil disturbance to get Fescue and some clovers to come up. Keep it mowed, fertilize it some, add a little seed to areas that need it the next Fall. I’d do KY31F, arrow leaf or crimson, and some white variety of clover to start. So... Could a spread out rye grass and fescue and then every fall over seed with rye? That would be a pretty good plan. Plant in fescue and overseer in fall with ryegrass and could even mix in a couple pounds of crimson clover.
