Been a rather off year for me. Food plots look good, but by and large have been ignored since they sprouted. Haven't had much luck in the woods either until this morning. Caught this scrubber nibbling through this morning at 9:30. About 18 yards on the ground hidden by a 12" sweetgum and a little bit of brush. He saw me get a pic of him with my phone, and hung around about 45 seconds too long. Longrifle is a Kibler Colonial in 50 cal flintlock. He was facing me when I shot and the round ball entered his chest at the base of the neck and absolutely wrecked the top of the heart. Took one big bounce and was dead where he landed. Primitive hunt and close quarters... excitement at its best!
