Very sad !! Like JA I keep a small knife in chest pocket if needed to cut away. Thank goodness I haven't had to use it and hope I never do. Be safe out there fella's
I've even thought about undoing the leg buckles and taking my chances dropping down. I think the most important thing would be not to panic and keep a level head. I've also considered what I would do. Would the knife become a liability after cutting the strap? Could I unbuckle and drop without getting tangled? Honestly, unbuckling is probably something worth trying one day from a couple foot up to see if it is feasible. I agree, remaining calm seems paramount.
