There's definitely some truth to this. Your best bet for a good deal right now would be a condo. I know of several condo communities where you could get a 2-3 bedroom unit for under $200k with a few being under $150k. They won't be the ones right on campus though. We have a large inventory of condos on the market right now so the prices have gone down quite a bit. It might not be quite the deal you were expecting but we've helped several people do the same thing you're talking about. If you want to reach out and talk specifics, send me a PM.
