I realize he only had a few games, but I was pretty impressed with Jones last season. Given the circumstances he looked fairly composed, made intelligent decisions and has pretty good athleticism.
As I told our son the other day, Saban isn't going to have a No. 2 who is a schmutz. The guy has to step in on a moment's notice, just as Jones did, and keep the train going. While that wasn't how Jones probably wanted to become the starter it showed that he was capable and did the job.
Plus, again while being a sucky situation, it gave Jones some good experience going into this year.
Mac Jones threw 13 TD in 4 starts. He did more against Auburn's defense than anybody else did all year. Bo Nix threw 16 TD in 13 starts. He carved up Bama's defense in the Iron Bowl and looked like a heisman candidate against Bama's depleted defense
