I have my ranger at the shop getting some work done on it. It's a "new to me" ranger. They called to give me an estimate and said the engine was making what they thought was a piston slap sound. They wanted a 3 hour breakdown charge just to investigate further. It sounded like a blackhole of growing costs, so I told them to hold off on doing that and I'll cross that bridge later if it gets worse.

Should I go ahead and let them dive into it? I'm not mechanically inclined enough to do it myself nor do I have the time, so that's not an option.
