Steel cut oats are cut pieces of the groat(the oat nut), still have the bran and aren't processed in any way. Regular oats are usually steamed, rolled and then cut/dried and don't have bran remaining. If you're avoiding processed foods, this is one to avoid. The more 'instant' the oats are, the more processed they are.
