I know it might be stretching it, but this strikes me because I argue with folks all the time about saying stuff like that. "I'm just happy to be out in nature", or "I get more satisfaction when SOMEONE ELSE kills a deer". I think I know what they mean, but I take it as an indicator of something curious.



I think in my father's case he might have just been beat down from work, and was just happy to be doing nothing. It came across to me as boring and a waste of time. I am all for being happy with enjoying time on the water or woods regardless if you kill something but not even trying is different.
