The team had a long history of solid, dependable kickers. Roger Chapman in the late 70s, Peter Kim, Van Tiffin, others. I think the team hit something l like 780 PATs without a miss at one point, right? And missed field goals were rare.

I get that Saban's offense is geared toward scoring touchdowns, as it should be. But damn, sometimes you have to kick a field goal. And even he admits when they kick, it gnaws his guts.

Why can't they get a reliable never-any-doubt kicker?

As for the rest of the team, IMO the offense looks pretty great and the defense is coming along about as well as expected by midseason for an injury-plagued group that had to replace some stout guys. LSU will be a big test.
