Huitlacoche. Mexican truffle. Corn smut. It's edible and tastes good when not overly mature and tough. Fry it up in some oil and throw it in an omelette. Nailed it. Yep!!!! My Dad would take the few pieces of corn he'd find like that in his patch and give them to a hispanic coworker who absolutely loved it.
