To start off, my preferred method of elk hunting is running and gunning. I had 2 goals when the season started
1- Kill one before my son and I had a 4 day VACA
2- Kill a mature bull
Well, I had a mature bull hanging on what I call the Horsey Field. I call it this because there's horses there. The East side of the Horsey Field is bordered by a river which this time of year is knee deep and lower because of the lack of rains in the summer. It's also not tidal this far up.
To hunt these bulls I had to check the field and stay close so, no running and gunning. I did cheat a bit. There was about a dozen bulls there before the season starts so, it was just which mature bull outta 3 or 4 would stay. In the end, it was Stickers that kept his kingdom there.
