Most lawyers will tell you when they need you to be there. It is very rarely the first day and if it is, it will be after lunch. 9am is what my paper illustrates. All subpoenas say that because it is the beginning of the trial. But, the lawyer should communicate with you and let you know when he will really need you. Honestly, if I was you, I would leave them a message (a phone number should be on the subpoena), leave your number and ask them to call you when you are needed.
