It's all the same. The Midwest and northeast have been decimated by loss of manufacturing and mining. The barrier for entry into the middle class has gotten increasingly higher with fewer guarantees of getting there. Lot of people can't or aren't willing to adapt or relocate, so they work odd jobs, get on government assistance, and do pills to feel something.
