If Academy's return policy is the way it used to be, they'd probably take it and give you a store credit. I worked at the Tuscaloosa one briefly in college and, at least at that time, they had a "No Questions Asked" return policy. Guy brought in a fishing rod that he'd broken 8-10" off the end. Of course there was no receipt and this clearly wasn't even remotely new. Better yet, it was a brand that Academy didn't even sell, pretty sure I remember it being something specific to Walmart. Manager gave him a store credit and he walked out with a brand new rod/reel combo.
