Its comin a flood here in selma now. Had 5 does in the field until a flash of lightning ran em off. The mature does all had very dark hock glands. My dad grunted in some bucks this morning. Two of em wouldn't come out of the thicket. He finally saw the rack of one of em and saw that it met his "criteria" of pope n young or better. He tried to roll the safety off on his steyr .270 and it was stuck. After jiggling it he got it rolled over. He looked through the brush and all he could see was the shoulder of the buck. That's all he needed to see. He shot. Bang flop. Then the big buck that he thought he was shootn at took off. The buck he ended up shootn turned out to be a 2.5 year old 7pt that had a 14-15" spread. Oh well. I owe him a bottle of rum now if I don't kill anything bigger. He grunted them bucks in at 10:10 this mornin. I sure enjoy coming up here to DC and spending time with Pops. Even better when deer hit the ground no matter how big they are.
