I've never heard of Thunderwood, a google search reveals Thunderwood is slang for Poison Sumac. The plant in your pic isn't poison sumac. I've seen the plant in your pic a lot , growing on open cedar/hardwood ridges with limestone present. I think it may be a variety of Bullnettle.



Yea, it is definitely not poison sumac. It's odd, this last season was the first time I've ever seen this plant in these areas...and it has absolutely infested the areas that it showed up in.

This stuff will try it's best to kill you though. It's gets tricky walking up and down steep ridges when you can't see where your foot is landing.
