I'd say it's not only difficult for me to grasp, it's impossible to grasp.
It would be as wishy-washy as someone wanting Germany to win every single battle against the allies in WWII except the last big decisive one to the U.S.
I'm not surprised, but there's the problem. Football isn't as important as bringing an end to systematic genocide.
Folks take this rivalry way too seriously.
