Don't try to reinvent the wheel. Stick with tried and true spring /summer plantings like, corn, soybeans, iron and clay peas (mine and deers favorite), milo, sunflower, sunn hemp, etc, etc.
They work, are inexpensive and easy to grow. Just plant big enough plots or fence them. It ain't rocket surgery Power plant is a mix of exactly what you described. Soybeans, forage peas, sunflower, and sunn hemp
