It seems that some of you think that the $50k he spent is an outlandish number to spend on a lion hunt.

Here's the normal break down:
Most lion hunts in Zim are a 21 day hunt @ $1250 +/- per day. (This is imposed by the government, not the outfitter. Out of the $26,250 +/- the PH might get $5000 or so. Then the trophy fee on the male lion he kills (depending on the concession) will range from $15,000 - $25,000. The concession (tribal land) gets 75% of this fee. In total, the PH will make $7500 +/- out of the total of $50,000 the hunter spent.

The PH will also make a % of each of the other trophies and bait animals that the hunter kills. On a 21-day lion hunt, you'd need 3-5 500-800lb bait animals. Those would cost anywhere from $800-1500 each.

Granted $50,000 is a pile of cash to spend for some of us, to others it's not much at all. It's no different than a guy on here hunting public land compared to the guy that spends $3000 on club dues in a year. The public land guy just can't believe anyone would/could spend $3000+ per year for club dues when you can hunt public ground for free.
