Just wondering if anyone has had any luck catching coyotes in a live trap. Got some that need whacking but cannot use steel traps on this piece of property.

THE correct answer will is maybe. IF its a young coyote, sure. I have rad about studys done up in the northwood, dont remember where, but biologist used LARGE cages to catch coyotes. Keep in mind this was like a natioanl park type situation the coyotes have NEVER been bothered or exposed to trapping or humans in general. I have trapped as many as 191 coyotes in 1 year and my answer would be I would be supprised if you ever caught an adult coyote in even the largest cage trap, but then again anything is possible in the wild! Have you considered paying a pro , getting a permit and letting them shot them at nite with nightvision equipment and silencers? If you cant trap this maybe an alturnative for you!

I have caught one in a cage trap and had another get in a small cage trap and tear it apart getting out and just leaving a bunch of hair. I don't think it would be worth your time to only use cage traps. Why can't you use footholds? I have caught dogs in them and as long as you check them regularly there is little to no damage.

Specially if youuse a offset jaw trap. You can but a spring in the drag or staking system and it will cause less damage. I use this set-up when i farm trap for coyotes. The spring looks similar to a small version of a porch swing spring!

Yes, I use all offset, and most of mine have cast jaws that are pretty easy on the feet.

I use to trap years ago. My father had a buisness in Baldwin County called TripleJ Fur Company. We bought fur and sold different baits and lures. It was a lot different back then. Caught the first coyote I had ever seen in this area around 1982. We have some property just across the state line in Florida that we hunt and it is infested with coyotes. Shot a big black one this year but was the only one we ever saw. They do not allow steel traps in that state and was just trying to consider some other alternative.

I believe snares are legal in Florida so that would be the way to go if that is true. I know people who have trapped coyote professionally in florida with foothold traps so maybe they are legal with a special license or permit.

I've caught em a big live trap, like 12 feetX 4 feetX 4 feet. Leave it set all the time and refresh the bait.

I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....
