My best friend was reviewing the credit card bill a couple of years ago. He came across a $400 bill to the vet so he asked his wife what it was for. She told him it was for a dog chiropractor...

The argument which he described to me was epic and I would have paid to see it.

Lots of people will.

I have had one of our poodles done before he turned 6 because I knew the cost was going to go up and he had horrendous breath which got way better after the cleaning. That one and our other one need it done, but it does continue to keep being put off because of how much it costs. They eat dry dog food and get treats that are supposed to help keep their teeth clean, and their teeth may be way better than they would be otherwise from it, but poor dental care can lead to other issues just like with people.

But, the bottom line is that if it is your dog, it is your choice to care for it how you see fit.

If you want your dog to have the gold standard of veterinary care, then it is going to be costly.

I bought a Boykin in 2007. Think I paid $700 maybe.

6 months old he quit eating and just started throwing up clear stomach liquid.

Vet did a scan and he had a blockage in his intestine, had to cut it out and several feet of his intestine that got damaged beyond repair. Turned out to be a wine cork, still the most expensive bottle of wine I’ve ever had... close to $2k

He’s still kicking, glad I spent the money on him. Has been a good dog

You mean they don't just take a styrofoam cup, put a couple of gauze pads in it, squirt some ether in there and put it over their noses to them to sleep?

I bought a Chesapeake Bay retriever in early December, $700.00. Christmas day he decides to eat the azalea bushes in the front yard, which at the time I didn't know were toxic as $hit for dogs. Cost a trip to Auburn University vet clinic, $200.00. He managed to catch kennel cough from the neighbor's dog that roams around the community, $100.00. Not sure if it was an abscess or a venomous snake bite I am dealing with now, Treating this one myself with penicillin and lanced to drain puss pocket, it is improving/almost resolved. Wife's neutered male cat has had several rounds of urinary blockages not even sure about the dollar amount on that one, but I think it is close to $1500.00.
I would go back to vet school if I was younger just to fix my pets............ Craziest animal I have doctored on is one of my chickens. Long story short, my rooster spurred the $hit out of her, it got infected, sepsis. I cleaned the wounds, penicillin injections for a week and she recovered. She is at least 6 years old and still lays a few eggs. LOL

Other than Dr. Matt's observations this is the key post of the thread. I picked up on this right away but others didn't apparently.

Most of us did. We just didn't feel the need to publish our intellectual superiority.

I'll take that over 3 pages of people showing their lack of reading comprehension telling us about the evils of veterinary medicine and how they wouldn't stand for such.

Y’all should check out those doggy day care/resort places. I’ve seen 2 that are nicer than most children daycare centers.
