Has anyone taken their bow with them when you are traveling by airplane? Would you recommend it or is it better to ship it to where you are going? Which case did you use when you traveled?

Get a hard case regardless.... Either way...you ship it or carry it with you... It's gonna take a beating....

Whether you ship it or fly with it you take your chances. If you ship it several weeks ahead of time and it gets lost or delayed, you will have time to get the situation straightened out before your hunt. Only drawback is, you have to worry about the person you ship it to keeping it safe. If you fly with it you run the risk of the airline screwing up and it not arriving with you. If this happens it will cost you a day or two before the situation gets straightened out. No matter which method you use, use a good foam lined SKB hard case and you will be fine. If you need to borry one let me know. I've got 3. I have one with rollers if you choose to fly with it.

I had bad problems two years running flying with Delta with my bow case. Had elk hunts in Montana. Funny how my camo bow case was misrouted but my normal clothes bag wasn't. Cost me a day the first hunt and 3 the second. I was not a happy hunter.

Yeah I am nervous about shipping it or flying with it - the trip isn't set in stone yet and driving is still an option.
Shaw, I will let you know if I need to borrow a case! Thanks a bunch!

Get a tuffpak or similar case so yahoos at airport will think it's golf clubs. Someone big on here offered to let me borrow their game tuffpack one time....maybe that hunter will chime in.

Be careful what you have in it too because it will get beaten to hell and back! I usually put some of my clothes in there too just for extra protection. They lost mine on a direct flight to Orlando once! Cost me a half day of hog hunting. Guy had to drive 90 miles to get it to me though, hope he was getting paid buy the hour!

TSA people love to search bow cases, they will open & dump every container including broadheads in a clear jar, leave arrows loose, clothes hanging out etc. Its a nasty business.

Get a good case.... I figured you just whittled one out of a tree trunk when you got there....

Get a good case.... I figured you just whittled one out of a tree trunk when you got there.... I'd of whittled that sob of a forklift operator if I had seen it...... I got on a plane in Bham in 1979 to fly to Wyoming to deer/antelope hunt. I watched the baggage handler throw my guncase prolly ten feet from the plane and felt it hit inside the cargo area, right under us. I asked the stewerdess if I could get off the plane for just 30 seconds.....
