I will give the link because I don't want to post all this again. All in all I'm very pleased.

Sounds about right. What's your next step?

Well, I suppose I'm going to kill stuff with the Hornady load until I get my reloading set up and I'm able to do a lot more testing and tweeking.

Probably a good plan. Let us know what happens when you take it back to the range.

I had a Montana in 270 WSM and it was the best feeling gun I ever owned.

However I spent $200 in ammo and never found anything it would consistently group under 1.75" at 100 yards. It would also break the tips off of ballistic tip bullets in the magazine each time it was fired.

Also you had to double clutch the bolt to chamber a round from the magazine. I sent it back to Kimber and they polished the feed ramp and said there wasn't an issue with the accuracy, or lack thereof!

I sold the Montana Since I have several rifle costing half as much that easily shoot a MOA with factory ammo.

I really wish the gun would have been a shooter because I loved the feel of it! I am of the opinion that you shouldn't have to tweak a 1K rifle just to make it shoot a MOA.

I'd buy a used one in a heart beat if I could shoot it first and it would shoot a MOA.

Good luck with yours and maybe you have found what it likes to eat.

I definitely need more time with it. It's harder to shoot than a gun weighing 2-3 lbs. more. It weighs right 6 lbs all up. like you said though I've never owned anything that I liked the feel of better. I had no issues feeding or ejecting.

That last target gave me a lot of hope that I was learning how to hold it steady and that I found some ammo and torque it liked. I've never shot a tighter group with any factory gun and factory ammo.

this was my exact experience with the only kimber rifle i have ever owned.

in comparison, i have a 10yr old youth rossi 243 single shot topped with a 20yr old tasco world class that will shoot 3" groups all day at 100yds with federal fusions from walmart.

i have issues with over-priced/under-performing setups.

X3 , I had a M84 in .243 , that thing wouldn't shoot worth a hoot, MOF it might have been the worst, certainly one of the worst shooting rifles I ever owned. Had to find it a new home.
Maybe R. H. can find a good round it likes, and not have to spend a bunch of $ on it.

Well, so far I only shot two groups with the Hornady. One went 1.5" and one was under 3/4". While all groups weren't great it does show a lot of promise. I've shot enough to know I sometimes shoot a crappy group and it isn't the gun's fault at all.

I have had to "fix" every Kimber I've owned. Love the guns. Just need a little tweaking, although I have heard they stepped up with quality in recent years. By "fix" I mean work on the stock. I haven't had any issues with the actions or barrels.

Do you mean bedding? Did you do it yourself or have it done?

Yes, and it is not real difficult. For your first Rodeo I'd get some Acraglas Gel from Brownells. It is a good product and less messy/easier to work with.

Most likely that is the direction you are headed, but I'd shoot some more to confirm.

I did have one Kimber that the stock was touching on so take a piece of paper and slip under the barrel to at least confirm the easier stuff. And if you pull it apart look at the mag well just to double check their too. Seems like I had one that moved but it was bottoming out. Speaking of make sure your scope base screws aren't bottoming out as well.

I may end up bedding it but I'm going to get to the range and shoot some more of those Hornady's first. My last 3 shot 100 yard group with them was dime size. I only shot two groups with them. One dime size and one about 1.5".

I did bust a gallon jug at 150 yards across the power line behind my house laying down propped on a log. One shot, one jug kill.

I just bought a 7-08 Montana myself but I ain't had a chance to shoot it yet. I hope it shoots dime sized groups and I ain't gotta fool with it.

I also shot a few far from dime size. I can tell you it is a little harder to shoot than a rifle 2 lbs heavier. You might want to look at this as well.

You'll love the gun hunting. The only thing I've ever had that isn't custom that I think rivals it is the Nosler rifle. But at the price difference I'll stick with the Montana.

If you get into reloading... I'm shooting a 140 Sierra, IMR 4064 42 gr., BR-2 primer and Winchester Case. Nothing fancy but has shot well in every 7-08 I've ever owned with about any of the 140's. Never had one run outa sight.

I'm putting money back now for reloading equipment. I've got two sako's and a model 70 that shoot very well with factory ammo, so I've never really seen the need to reload until recently when I can't find the loads I want to shoot.

In my opinion, and if I owned one of these rifles I would care less what size group it shot. As long as the cold bore shot is right where I want it then I would be happy. These rifles are built to be light, not to shoot dime size groups.
