Bastages !!! Over 60 people at my CU were affected !
Got a call from the lady at my CU saying my account had been compromised ! I check it on average about every two days. Guess where they got me ?
Flying J !!! No more Debit cards at the pump for me , EVER !
I'll be the first to tell you, I'm no computer guru but I had no idea just how easy it is to get someone's info ! Dammit man !

Open two checking accounts
One for nothing but bill paying. No other spending
One for debit/grocery/eating out/online spending. Keep $100.00 or less in this account. Move $ when you need it for a bigger purchase than the balance on the account. That's the card that will get stolen. They can't take you for more than $100.00.
It's a pain in the azz, but it works. With mobile banking, you can transfer money in 5 minutes with a phone call or app.
Character is not developed in moments of temptation and trial. That is when it is intended to be used.

Never use a debit card at a gas pump as a debit card. Only use it as a credit card...it keeps them from getting your PIN number.

I use only my credit card and last year it got hacked four times. Myself and three others from work all stayed at the same hotel one week in Gardendale a few months back and all four of us got it. That's not coincidental and I know it's these low life's that work the front desk of some of these hotels that are doing it. The problem is catching them.

You should get all your money back...They are backed by the NCUA... Had mine hacked two years ago and the card services dept caught it after 4 charges for a total of $400 and some change.... Filed a dispute...Money was refunded instantly until they determined the source....Eight months later I get a letter from my Credit Union that the source was found and identified...All was fine...

If Visa/MC would hurry along the transition to EMV(smart card) technology, this kind of thing wouldn't happen. Europe transitioned a few years ago and it put a huge dent in card fraud. They tell us that they will start the transition next year but I'm not holding my breath.

It is a computer encrypted chip that is embedded into the card. All of the user info is on the chip instead of a magnetic stripe. All credit card machines and pos systems will have to be updated to accept this technology and we are already selling the new machines that will process the current cards as well as the future emv cards.

No place hardly would accept the old type swipe cards we use here. Luckily we had two of the new types chip cards. We need to catch up to the rest of the world here. A lot of fraud takes place and it could be easily stopped.
