This year I joined a club in Tennessee and I still have my private property here on the mountain at Skyline (AL). I hoped going into this season that maybe, just maybe, I would get lucky enough to kill a bird in each state on the same day. Today it happened! Part 1 - This morning I headed to a spot in Tennessee where I had roosted a bird Wednesday evening. I had to work yesterday but I was hoping he would be in the same area. Sure enough, he was there. He gobbled just enough on the roost that I was able to get about 100 yards from him. He pitched down at about 6:30 and was dead at 6:50. I could tell he was a good bird but he ended up being my best ever! Double beard and absolutely beautiful color! He had one messed up spur but I didn't care. I've waited a long time to kill a multiple bearded turkey. I'm getting it mounted and the 10-12 month wait is gonna be rough. . . . Part 2 - On the way back from taking my bird to the taxidermist I decided I would stop and see if I could find a bird on my private land. I walked back to where my food plots are and slipped around to where I could see into the biggest one. There they were! 2 longbeards and a hen were in the plot and one of the longbeards was strutting. Game on!! I slipped around to a smaller plot about 150 yards of thick stuff away from the one they were in. I got set up and called lightly just to let them know I was there and one of the longbeards gobbled back. After giving them the silent treatment and an hour later the hen walks into the small plot with the longbeards in tow. Game over! It goes without saying, but I sure do feel like the good Lord was smiling on me today!!!
