God laid this on our hearts to use this as a family ministry to help in our small way to meet the needs of at-risk children in our area. Children in foster care need safe, loving, and encouraging homes where they can find respite from the circumstances and situations of life that found them in the care of DHR through no fault of their own. The Shelby County Foster and Adoptive Parent Association would like to invite you to attend, participate and Join us for the 3rd Annual “Walk Me Home...to the place I belong” 5k Run and Walk for Foster Care on April 26, 2014 in Hoover at Veteran’s Park. Help us support foster children and youth throughout the Greater Birmingham Area! There are more than 400,000 children in foster care across the country. Approximately 5500 of these children reside in the State of Alabama and approximately 500 foster children live in the Greater Birmingham area. The Walk Me Home 5K event was developed in order to bring awareness to foster care, promote fostering, and raise funds needed to support the programs and services directly benefiting the Greater Birmingham foster children and youth. This is the sixth year in which a nationwide event of this magnitude has been organized with specific focus on foster care. Please join us in Veterans Park and walk for a terrific cause. With your help we can make a lasting, positive impact in the lives’ of Birmingham’s foster kids! The 5K Walk/Run will be held at Veteran’s Park off Valleydale Road in Hoover, AL.
