I've been a bow hunter for many years and I've made a few perfect shoots where the deer only went a few yards .. The heart shot .. Then I've made bad shots that only went a few yards .. High and back .. What's your favorite kill ? A heart shoot is mine but tough to hit ... A spine shot sucks ...

Why are you saying a spine shot sucks?

Why are you saying a spine shot sucks? Because they sit there and flop around and If they are like me the Adrenaline is pumping so hard by then that it can be hard to get another arrow in them to finish the job.

The bread and butter for a bowhunter is the double lung. This^^^^. Been my experience getting only the heart will be a longer track job than lung shots.

Straight down shots are the hardest to hit just right .. I stuck a nice buck shooting straight down .. I tried to off set between his spine and shoulder to get an exit thru his heart .. The mechanical head must have jammed between the thick ribs at the spine .. Never used mechanical sence ..

I spined a 12 point at 2 steps one time that didn't move when it hit the ground. It dropped right where I shot it.
A heart and/or lung shoots are better, though.

I head shot one once, not on purpose. She was DRT. She was quartered away at 35 yards and about 2 minutes earlier I had double lunged her buddy. When I let the arrow go, she jumped the string and spun to her left. The arrow went over her body, entered her head right between her ears and exited through her left nostril.

Double lung no doubt. I shot a doe this year quartered away double lunged her and exited through her shoulder. She dropped in her tracks jumped up and ran back down the hill maybe 10yds and died right in front of me. It was awesome to watch it all take place.

Double lung...most won't get out of sight.
I thought it would be cute one time to shoot a doe between her eyes, so when she was facing me I shot and it ricocheted off her skull and didn't kill her!! I could tell there was a nasty wound, but no penetration. Now I'm ashamed I did that, but I would've never thought that would happen. She was about 15 yards away.
A friend killed a doe while hunting with me one day (incidentally in the same place as the head shot above occured). He said she busted him drawing back, looked up, and he thought he could shoot her in the shoulder still. He said when he shot she jerked her head around and started biting at the arrow trying to pull it out with her teeth, she was standing up just spinning in a circle. She stopped and stood still, and he was able to lung shoot her and she died just a few yards away. What had ACTUALLY happened was the first shot went through the base of her ear and pinned her head around against the top of her shoulders!!! Obviously I didn't see the shots occur, but I saw her with the arrow still stuck in her, else I'd never believe that!
I also shot a small 7 point once through the back hips, and he didn't make it 75 yards, bled like a chainsaw massacre, and died almost instantly! Reckon I hit that big vein everybody talks about.
And one more: I had two good bucks come in feeding on acorns one morning right at daylight, the back buck caught me moving trying to shoot the front buck, he blew and boogered the buck I was shooting at, wound up facing me, and I took a crappy shot that glanced off his back. I literally saw hair fly off and my arrow clanked down through the woods. Fast forward to the last day of that special muzzleloader week, and I shot that deer in a cutover with my muzzleloader within 100 yards of where I had been bowhunting. He had a big nasty, infected-looking slice about a foot long on top of his back hips, cut all the way down to the spine.
