Have you ,or have you ever heard of anyone ever getting caught and fined for baiting in limestone county?

I haven't heard anything about it. I know of a few folks that have been busted up the road in Giles county Tn where I do most of my hunting.

It might just be a recycled rumor but a friend of mine heard from a friend of his in Montgomery that the DCNR, or whoever makes up the latest set of rules, is taking the issue of hunting over corn up for discussion in hopes of passing it. I hope not.

The DCNR if I remember correctly is looking into defining a distance that would make it legal to hunt away from bait. They way the rule reads now is if you have bait in the "area" then it is illegal. If you own 1000 acres and hunt 500 yards from bait then you can be given a ticket by the warden for that even if you do not know it is own your land. They are looking into a 200 yard rule where no hunting can occur within 200 yards of a bait site, not just this in the "area" term.

We need something that makes sense. Half the deer hunters in Alabama hunt over bait, the other half either wish they were or blame those who do for them not seeing deer.

I hope it passes. I personally dont care about siitin on a pile of corn but i think 85% of us will use it the right way. theres always that 15% that abuse it. However i would like to use it to draw these hung up bucks out of all these planted pines in this doe infested area of central alabama so i can manage my bucks quality of horns better!

I live and work in Limestone Co. too and I have not heard of anyone ever getting caught, but I don't go sit at the country stores and BS to much either. I will ask and see how many cases a year we get here.

Since many bucks each do a small amount of the breeding, and since does may breed with multiple bucks, it is impossible to control or even predict which bucks breed which does in the wild. Thus, it is difficult to control the genetic traits you select for (or against) by selectively harvesting bucks based on antler characteristics. And, it is difficult to improve (or degrade) the genetic traits within a deer herd by selectively harvesting bucks based on antler characteristics.

ok so tell me if you get a one side cowhorn gene in the herd you want it to progress rampantly in the herd?? i had this problem several years back and it took four years to straighten it back out when if we fed we couldve prevented it a lot sooner. I will buy you a 67 tag for your comments being that it seems to be your IQ!!!!!!!!!!!

You can NOT control the genetics of a free roaming deer herd !
If your deer were penned and you know exactly which doe bred
which buck, maybe. Look at Texas. The big ranches call 8 point management (CULL)bucks. They kill every one they see. Yet every year there is a new load of them born. The trait is carried on by the doe ! I know certain parts of Alabama have the one side trait. I hate the NO BROWTINE trait worse.May articles are written about small deer with screwed up racks that get normal racks as they mature.

Hate to disappoint you, but yall didn't straighten it out.
You can not identify a genetic disorder by "looking" at a deer, nor can you change a genetic trait by shooting deer ... unless you kill them all and start over.

Whatever you think chief but they damn sure didnt have a chance to pass it on when they are dead! And it was fun doing it. We havent had a warped rack or gene since that time.

Better kill all the does if you want to get rid of "bad" genes.
