I don't have a picture of it, but this is a description.

It is a giant single steel wheel, about 30 inches in diameter and about 6 inches thick and it drags at about a 45 degree angle to the tractor.

It will sink up to the axle just because of the sheer weight.

That thing looks like it weighs 800 pounds!

It is made for breaking new ground and weeds don't wrap around it.

It peels a giant swath of dirt and simply lays it over.

Afterwards, you can run your set of discs over it without all the weed-wrap filling up the discs.

I have never seen one before or since, but it fits a 3 point hitch.

No plow I've ever seen did as much work in as little time as that one, but you could tell it was very old.

If I ever see another one, you can bet I will try to buy it.

It has grease fittings for lubing the bearings.

Yes
They are old but can't remember the correct name.

I've got one that was my grandfathers. He used to pull it with an 8n but you had to be real careful because it wold dang near flip the tractor if it caught something. I looked at it the other day. I bet it hasn't been used in 20 years.

On a Seperate note the cheap single plow at tractor and supply works really well for the money, and small acreage. We opened up a new plot last fall and used it do to a bunch of small roots. It turned the soil about 8-10" deep and we followed it with a disc.

Swampy, I've seen a rig like that one you pictured. It isn't like that one.

On your picture, look at the rear wheel.

Now imagine THAT rear wheel made out of solid steel and about a good 6 or 8 inches thick and thigh high with a slight concave shape.

Now imagine it being turned 45 degrees to the tractor on a frame all by itself and the tractor pulling the "cup" shape.

The thing I am talking about takes a good sized tractor to pull it because of the front weight needed to even steer the thing. As I recall, the axle with the bearing for it was probably 2 inches diameter by itself.

This thing was ancient and was as massive as a train wheel.

Thanks for trying get me closer to an answer, though.

The neat thing about that one was that if you were pulling it in sloppy mud, you could leave the field turned for a week or so and the tall piles of turned dirt would air dry it and be ready for disc-ing.

I am amazed at the old fashioned, heavy duty, damn the cost ingenuity that folks USED to come up with in answer to their needs!

That looks VERY similar to the one I saw.

Your seems to have a rear wheel for depth control and to keep that Farmall on the ground. grin

Yes, that's just about the same thing except for the mass of the one I described.

Very cool! thumbup

Google "disk plow". There may be other names for them, but I don't know what they are.

Fuzzy and Rare, those two are very close.

Evidently, there were several configurations of that idea back in the day.

THANK YOU for pointing me in the right direction! thumbup

Turning plow/disc plow for steam tractor. Everything had steel wheels when they were made. Research steam tractors and you'll find it.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

Yep. Disc plow. I've never seen one in action, but I hear they're good for fire breaks and breaking new ground.

Tufline manufacturing makes them over in Columbus, Ms. There is a man down around Andalusia who makes them out of his shop that are a lighter version(small hp tractors) than what Tufline makes. If you want one I can hook you up with either manufacturer.

I have - LONG time ago. In Indiana (where I grew up as a kid). I wasn't sure until I hit your line that said very old. And also, as someone posted, I think they made them for the old steam tractors. I went to a couple Old Threshers' Reunions (read - OLD steam tractor show) in IN and NC. Most likely where I saw it, or maybe even just sitting in a barnyard way back as a kid in Indiana.

BTW - one I remember - No Farmall is gonna pull it!

Steam tractor video. Not pulling a disc type turning plow but still impressive.
