This amateur must have misplaced his snow plow. I can't even remember the last time I used it.

If I can just get home before it ices up me and the family will be fine. No need for a last minute run for supplies. I try to stay prepared for most anything that can happen.
Keep supplies in the car just in case as well but would prefer to be at home to ride it out.

New updates in the link at the top.
It seems the temps haven't come up as quickly across central Alabama as they were expected to today. Which basically translates to moving the freezing rain line a little further south than previously forecast. This could bring ice into play in more counties, including Shelby, Chilton and Bibb.
If you haven't made plans for a possible power outage at your house, now is the time. Looks like they are backing off their predictions now. Little or no accumulation expected as temps will not be low enough for any significant accumulations. Good news! Looks like temps will stay ABOVE freezing for the most part.

[/ Where did you see that? NWS says highs above freezing next two days. Anything that falls will melt quick with temps above freezing.

I don't think they know what the hell to forecast. It's frustrating as hell to get a 2-4" forecast one day and then none to 1/2" and then back to 3".
If you’re a common sense person, you probably don’t feel you have a home in this world right now. If you’re a Christian, you know you were never meant to.

Understand that what the high temperature is tomorrow has NOTHING to do with what could happen tonight.
If rain falls while the temperature is below freezing tonight, it will freeze on surfaces that it contacts, including tree limbs and road surfaces. If enough ice accumulates on tree limbs before the temperature comes back up above freezing, trees and limbs could fall on power lines. Thus, creating the potential for a situation where you have now power in your home and the roads are too iced up to drive. That is the threat we will face tonight. And, in some places, the is a likelihood that the temp could stay below freezing all day tomorrow because of a Cold Air Damming effect, and, with another round of precipitation tomorrow night, could be facing the same situation all over again.
This has the potential to be a crippling ice storm for the Atlanta area.

Watch the dew points as well. The air temperature does NOT have to be below 32F for water to freeze. Freezing occurs when the WATER TEMP hit 32F and solidification occurs. For example, if it's breezy and the dew point is 10F but the temp is 35F, and there's standing water in a shadowed area (no direct sunlight), then the water can still freeze. The air is dry enough so that evaporation occurs, cooling the surface of the water to the point that you get ice.
That usually doesn't happen DURING a rain/sleet event, but it can happen after when the colder, dryer air moves in and it's breezy. Just something to watch out for when the temps are just above freezing but the air is dry and there is standing water in places.

http://forecast.weather.gov/product.php?...&glossary=1New NWS discussion. Very strong indication of this being a 2 day event now. Perhaps with only a small break in precipitation Tuesday afternoon and many areas not getting above freezing tomorrow. Could very well see 3 or more inches of snow in the Warning area between now and Wednesday morning.

I thought that might be you, I used to work out of that office with her, I am a supervisor on the System Operations side of the business. Always made it a point when I am at the office to talk Alabama football with her, she knows her stuff. I think I've heard her talk about a Chad that was a System Tech up there. She definitely knows what she's talking about when it comes to football. Between me and her side of the family she sure hears about it enough.
