Got my first one coming to me this week. Anybody have any pros or cons on theirs? I have seen where people say bedding the forearm is a must for a humid environment and also that I have a 50/50 chance of it being a shooter or a lemon

I had a Richard Garrison built No 1 standard in 270Win

forearm was bedded and the gun shot three shots into less than an inch at a hundred yards

My brother has a 243. It's a shooter but too heavy to hunt with IMO, at least in Jackson Co.

I own a 1B in 30'06, beautiful rifle. Was difficult to get to shoot acceptable (1.25 MOA) but does with good handloads and bedding and floating the forend. I wouldn't touch the forend unless you're having troubles. They can be hit or miss accuracy wise, hope you get a good one.

Riflenut, that's exactly what I have heard. I hear if they are shooters you won't find one because people won't sell them! This one was my grandfathers and I managed to make a trade to my uncle for it. It has never been fired and if I guessed it was probly manufactured in late 80's early 90's. (Not a red pad) thanks for the input guys

These are huntin rifles, not target rifles. As said, mine was finicky and required some work. It is the least accurate rifle I own but I have yet to pull the trigger with it in the field where something didn't die. Issues come from the hanger that the forend screws to which vibrates differently than the barrel and can cause problems. I have a buddy that also has a 1B, 3/4 MOA out the box with handloads. Enjoy, it will soon become one of your favorites.
