How is everyones deer numbers compared to past years? Which county? I have been hunting the Eufaula duck refuge for years with my group, we all noticed the past couple years, the deer numbers seem to be falling. Not many shots on private land either. I also have access to land in crenshaw county. The same thing seems to be happening there also. Trail cameras before and during season shows same thing.

Been on a steady decline where I hunt in Mobile county for years. Between the coyotes, bears and meat hunters around here the deer population is way down. That is why don't shoot does and very few are shot on my club.

We have plenty here in northern Walton County, but we only have 7 doe days a year so that keeps folks from killing too many does.

My place in Autauga Co. has been on the decline for almost a decade and I think numbers have leveled off quite a bit lower than what we had before 2005/2006 or so. That area has never had large numbers of deer but it held a decent population. I can hunt for several days now and not see a deer. I really believe the blanket doe harvest rule (all season long of doe days) really hurt that property and area.
I'll keep hunting it though. I'm hoping that we can get some changes, reductions, in the number of doe days we have so the numbers can rebound some. Most folks can't control their trigger finger enough to drop 3 months worth of either sex days in their laps, IMO.

Me to!!! Damn Floridians killing all of alabama's deer.
Our camp, which consists of 20 Floridians, has only taken 45 deer off of 5400 acres so far this year. I consistently see 8+ deer a sit and our property is about 20 min north of eufuala.

Really? Do you have any idea the money these good folks put into this states economy? That is a ridiculous comment.

To blame it on the Florida hunters is ridiculous IMO.

Numbers in our club in Lamar County is way down not seeing much at all dont know what that attributed to but could be timber being cut this year or neighbors feeding etc.

One of the main focuses of qdm is killing does to REDUCE deer density.

Killing does REDUCES the deer population if you go beyond a given point. (35% is the widely accepted point by many biologists including natural predation)

How hard is it to grasp that??

so u have to either reduce the amount of hunters..or reduce the amount of deer killed by each hunter

Our property had a survey done by a qdm group a few years ago and suggested our members set a goal of 75-100 does a year. We have never even come close to it. Deer density I feel in Barbour, bullock,Russell county is probably higher than the state average IMO

We're not seeing as many deer as in the past over there either. However, we are seeing deer almost every time we go. But, as I posted on another thread, we have dogs running around our place absolutely every time we're there.

Sweet Home Alabama
I have three different tracts that I hunt. My primary tract is a little over 400 acres, and either own or lease the property and have for 20+ years. I also live on the property and have for the past two years. On this tract I have noticed a decline in numbers over the past 5-6 years, which coincides with the timeline that most of the adjoining property started being hunted. Prior to 2004 or 2005, only one of my adjoining properties were being hunted.

I have another 150 acre tract about 3 miles away. This tract has always had more deer then the tract at my house. However 80 acres the join this tract along the West line was purchased by a family about 6-8 years ago and since then the numbers have dropped drastically. Based upon our conversations they shoot 15+ deer every year, and the first couple years they shot 25+.

My last tract is 15 miles away near Luverne, 200 acres, 160 of which are ag fields. This land has never been hunted and never had any gunshots or any type. To my knowledge 2 of the properties nearby are hunted. I am allowed to shoot 1 buck per year bow only. Its common to see 15+ deer every time I go.
