Just shot a deer with crossbow, a few min after 5. Got a pass thru but I think I hit too far back. Have dark blood and hair embedded in broadhead. I didn't attempt to look tonight. I will go back at daylight and look. What are my chances of finding it?

Does the bolt have a gut smell? If you didn't push it, chances are good.

That dark blood may be liver, which is as good as lungs just about. Good luck.

I didn't push it. Got my bolt and left. I am close to home so I will start looking tomorrow morning. Can't tell about the gut smell. It doesn't smell like shat, just dark blood.

Chances are still good I messed up my shot today hit the liver he didn't go 60 yards let him sit for 2 hours because I wasn't sure. You did the right thing and didn't push him. Everybody makes a bad shot every once in awhile. Comes with the territory. I post a pic to give you an idea of where the shot could be.

I killed a doe yesty evening. Hit her way back in the same spot you hit yours. And like yours, she didnt go 50-60 yards and piled up. More blood on the ground than a lung shot. Everybody makes a bad shot occasionally. To me, shooting them in the shoulder is the absolute worst. I would rather hit them too far back and give them time.
