^^^^^ This.
I am on vacation next week, if you would like N2TRKYS and myself can go check your place for any Pre-Rut activity.

That's right. I don't go back to work, until Christmas Day.

So I'm going down there on a visitor hunt this weekend. What should I expect? And what strategies maybe for bucks starting to cruise?

It depends on the area of Pickens. I've seen them chasing around Carrollton as early as mid December. Southern Pickens but northeast of Tombigbee is normally Christmas to New Years. Southern Pickens Southeast of the Tombigbee seems to be more mid January.

I used to hunt between Benevola and Aliceville and it always fell between either the week of Christmas to the week after...

I personally don't know much at all about Pickens, but just yesterday evening a buddy of mine showed me a pic of a STUD 9 pt his father in law killed Monday evening that was "chasing hard"....
