What is the longest shot you have taken with confidence? Did you hit your mark? I'm not talking about "yeh, I can put one in him" or "I'm not sure but he's too good to not let one fly". I'm talking about a very high level of confidence that you will drop him without having to track him to the next county.

To put it another way, what is the longest range you will shoot without doubt?

p.s. please don't lie, not that anyone would lie about hunting or anything, it's just that I'm new to this and I'm trying to learn something. I know that every hunter is different and maximum range with confidence will vary according to ability, I'm just wondering what might be relatively average. I will always push myself to get better, I'm just trying to figure out what might be reasonably attainable.

52 yards on the edge of a green field. The doe was standing watching a spike in the field. I ranged her, adjusted the yardage on my sight, drew and double lunged her. She made it maybe 60 yards. If the animal is calm, in the open, it's not windy and I know the exact yardage, I am very confident to 50 yards. Normally most of my shots are under 30 yards. My longest shot this year was 25 yards. I made a "very confident" shot on a doe broadside at 15 yards earlier this season and shot just over the top of her back.

As a rule of thumb, whatever range that you can keep every arrow in a paper plate size target, that is your max range.

Range I'm absolutely confident with hunting is about 25-30 yards. I'm absolutely confident on paper out to about 50, but deer hunting ain't paper.

I've seen some crazy things happen after launching an arrow at a deer over 30. Things that make me really question a shot that far.

back when I shot a compound I did most of my practicing at 50 yards and ended with a walk up to 10 yards. Killed a nice seven year old seven point at 49 ranged yards. He was bedded broadside with a hot doe and wasn't going to move.

I really like 15-20 yards as there is a lot less to go wrong...

Using a compound I shot a young 4 pt at what I estimated to be 50 yds. Double lunged him with a Gator 100. He made it 30yds.
Using a recurve I shot a doe at 17yds. I had previosly measured the distance to that shooting lane. She walked 15yds and fell over. Shot with a 125grain Zwickey.

Probably 30 with complete confidence. I used to think 40 but I had a doe at 41 teach me a few things this year, I was lucky and recovered her but she moved no less than 18" from when I shot.

40 under good weather conditions, any more and I'll second guess myself.

Shot a doe at 48 yds all other deer I have shot under 30 yds. Wouldn't feel confident out past 50yds. Depends on weather and terrain out past 30yds for me.

52 yards

Stuck a 6 point that had been shot in the hind quarters with a Flintlock earlier that morning on Wheeler Refuge. Tough deer, shot in hind quarter by a smokepole and then stuck with a Broadhead through one lung and he still traveled another 1/4 mile!!

I think 57 yards is my longest shot to date. I prefer 30-40 yard shots due to that is the distance I practice at most. I practice a lot of 80 yrd shots so the 40 yard shots seem easy.

I practice out to 80 and can put it where I need to at that distance....live deer, I would sling one at 60, but 53 is my furtherest so far.

I killed a nice 7pt at 67yds one time but I am comfortable shooting at 60 depending on wind, a good open shot and mainly on the deers demeanor. If they appear nervous I wont try it.
