Any thoughts on this. Looks like they are supporting shooting spikes in Texas. But I may be wrong. A lot of scientific stuff to wade through. But what I take from this goes against what I have been reading on here and other places like QDM. What do yall think?

Great comprehensive study. Culling spikes wouldn't work in Alabama or most States though. 80% of the yearling bucks I see are just spikes. And when they hit 4.5 they are usually great bucks if they have normal antlers.

Even in Texas though, with massive landholding, massive large high fence operations with massive deer populations the landowner/land manager could spend their whole life trying to cull all the spikes. So I don't see it as practical even if theoretically beneficial to producting larger antler bucks at maturity there.

We would wipe out nearly the whole yearling buck crop if we shot spikes around here.

Different with Oct. -Nov. ruts. I hunt in TX also, and earlier drops help a lot on fawn and yearling body and rack size. After 1.5 AL deer see to catch up.
