Anybody ever been? I've got a chance to maybe get out of Florida with a transfer to Reno. The hunting opportunities are definitely much better than here.

I've been to Vegas, Phoenix, Williams, AZ.
Never been to Reno. Just throwing it out there.
Not a promotion, same pay. I have to pay for the move.
I hate Florida!!!

I've been on conferences there and to a vendor shop. Personally, I thought it was sort of a dump. I could see where outdoor activities like hunting etc could be great though. Within a few hours drive there are multiple different types of terrain. Anywhere from desert, to mountain peaks, to Sierra Nevada forrest.

If it were me I'd travel there and check out the city for at least a week or so. Especially if it involved kids (school system, churches (or lack thereof)).

It's a beautiful city. I used to go there about 30 years ago so I'm sure it has changed now. The Sierra Nevada Mts to the west of Reno are beautiful. They measure snow by the foot there. I'd definitely visit there before moving if you've never been. Don't know where you grew up or what you're used to but it's cultural shock being from the south.

I've been several times and thought the city itself was a dump. People call it the poor man's Vegas. But, the location would be great. Not that far from Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada mountains. I used to hunt Black tail deer in those mountains.

I've been a couple of times.....but each time it was to get to the Sierra. Lots of fun stuff to do within 1-2 hours. The climate is different than the mountains....dry and drab scenery. But you can access the mountains easily to west and enjoy them without having to live in Cali. No Cali laws or taxes.

My sister and brother in law just moved out there 5-6 months ago. They said housing is hard to come by for reasonable prices. There were butt-loads of foreclosures during 08-09 but banks and investors snached them up .

If you have a good gig there I would say go. Just check into cost of living vs where you are and housing. And schools if you have kids.

Reno seems to be a trashy Vegas. Vegas rejects. Whatever you want to call it. I have to travel there a few times per year. I've seen sandstorms, heavy rain, and snow storms. Usually very windy. Surrounding areas could be ok. Lake Tahoe is awesome.
