Well, ive gone and done it. After 14 years with a compound, I bought a Recurve last night. Im going to start tinkering with it, and hopefully by next year, be proficient enough with it, that I'll be hunting with it.
Ive played with recurves and longbows some in the past, but have never attempted hunting with one. Looking forward to a new challenge.
I doubt I go full Traditional (making my own arrows or heads), but maybe at somepoint I will. Who knows.

Congrats!!
You will find it to be quite rewarding.
I'm sure you will find you are like a little kid again having fun; shooting at just about anything, squirrels, leaves, stumps, birds, etc. Make sure and get some judo points.

I did a good bit od research, not really wanting to spend 500+ on a new bow on something I may not like. I wound up with a vintage 49# @ 28" Wing Archery-Red Wing Hunter. I ordered it, and haven't received it yet, but ill post some pics when I do. I went ahead and bout a new string as well.
Jeff- I did a lot of reading on the subject of arrows and BH'S. I wound up going with 5575 GoldTip Traditional Hunters. Lancaster Archery Supply has them uncut for $6.25 apiece. As far as BH'S. From everything ive read, a heavy head is needed. Ive looked at several, but right now im leaning toward a 125 gr. Magnus Stinger, since I went with the heavier arrow. Ive got to do more research though.
If anyone has any equipment tips, they'd be much appreciated.

You probably should've went with the 3555 Gold Tips. A front loaded GT will fly like a dart. For the 5575s: Order the 100gr brass inserts. You also will need a heavier head. 150-300 grains as well. God Bless, David B.

I appreciate the insight on the brass inserts and heavier heads! If you go with a broadhead which is glue on, you can add the steel screw insert/adapters of 75, 100, 125 grains to up the weight. I was shooting a GT 5575 at 27 1/4" with 100gr brass insert, 125 grain Wensel Woodsman, with 75gr steel insert/adapter. I was pulling 56 lbs. A great chart to use is Stu Miller's Dynamic spine calculator. It will take a while to learn how to use it, but well worth it. http://heilakka.com/stumiller/You will need to save, and then open it. Read the directions as well. God Bless, David B.

Like said before you can shoot the 5575 but your going to have to front load them and keep them long. Start by bare shaft tuning them and trim them a 1/4 inch at a time till they fly straight, then fletch them and they will fly like bullets. I switched to trad 9 yrs ago and love it. The first deer I killed was more trilling than all of the deer I have killed with a compound put together. If you need any tips or advise let me know, I'm not an expert but I've already made mistakes and learned from them. Good Luck So on the bare shaft tune, how do i shoot them without inserts?

You don't. I would suggest returning the 55/75's and getting the 35/55's. You MIGHT be okay with the 55/75's as long as you leave them full length and shoot a heavy insert and tip. When I shot trad I used a 50 grain insert and 150-175 grain tip.

No, bare shaft means no fletching. Do a google search on it. It's fairly simple. You'll need access to an arrow saw as you do it. Just use one arrow. Instead of cutting the end off with the insert in it, pull the nock out and cut it off the rear of the arrow.

At least until you load up the front with 250+ grains of weight.

hard of hearing.... THE 55/75S ARE TOO STIFF, GET SOME 35/55S.... I shoot Gt 35/55s 30" with 100gr brass inserts, 200gr points out of a 57# reflex/deflex longbow, total 570 grains. without the inserts and heavy points it is very hard to get most carbon arrows up to a desired total weight.
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....
