Congrats. That'll be some great eating. I hope I can get back out West and get my first one. What subspecies is it?

The area we hunt is walk in/bike only. No motorized vehicles. Thankfully I was only about a mile from the gate. Easy packing to the bikes too. Weird riding a bike with 100lbs on your back. The locals during gun season use pulley/cable (some 3/4 mile long) and drag out with trucks. Here's how we roll

Roosevelt, biggest bodies in the states... This guy was young but, I wasn't being choosey. I have hunted 13 days (some of those days were 1/2 days) and logged no telling how many miles. Just the 1st two days of season, I hiked/biked a little over 31 miles chasing these things

Not bad at all due to kill location. The day before, I was 5 miles in and real close to popping one, cow busted me and that ended quick. Kinda glad since this guy was a lot closer to the gate. From gathering buddies, packs, cleaning the elk, and packing out to the rigs, 4 hours and 45 minutes.

It is. From my house to the gate I parked at to bike in y'day, 1.7 miles. I use 3 gates, that one, another about 8 miles away and the 3rd gate is probably 15 miles.

Congrats! I always wanted to get an elk. Maybe someday.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.
