Ive shot Josh's Tikka and its nice. We sold a ton of them when I worked at Academy years back and never had a complaint. I remember him looking at them and me talking about them with him, the bolt throw is what hooked him and I belive of lot of other folks too. They are smoooth. Its on my short list of things to own. As for the 7mag Im a fan and love mine. When she rings off I dont look for blood I just go get the truck and pick up the deer.

Some guns are picky. My tikka didnt like some bt ammo. I would still say check your mounts, and try another scope (even zeiss can have issues). Ive never owned a savage that shot that poorly. Scope is a ziess conquest 46mm 4x10.its definitly not the scope.ive usedca gun rest to sight in so its not me shooting either.this gun will not shoot any ballistic 150 gr wich pisses me off.there 4 to 10 inches all over the place.it seems to shoot the 180 gr winchester silvertips and the barnes ttx the best.my other savage I got from walmart is the same.only will shoot 180 gr.now my brothers cheap axis will shoot em all in the same hole all day.shoots the 150 gr hornady sst like no ones business. I ask because I have a powerline that runs thru my lease.some big cutovers and ive ranged the shots to the end of the food plots to 330 yards from the shoot house.i may go with the 308 or 270.just done with the 30 06

Can't go wrong with a tikka I love all 5 of mine. With that being said I'm not a big fan of savage rifles but I've never seen or owned one that wasn't a great shooter. As far as 7mm vs 30-06 if those were my only two choices I would get the 30-06 BUT if I were buying a new rifle it would be a 308.

Shot a browning BLR 7 mag for a few years when I hunted in Missouri, never noticed the recoil when shooting a deer, but just throwing a few at the targets that thing would rattle my teeth. Shot my buddies rem 700 in 7mag and it was a pleasure to shoot. Killed deer with both guns but was just to mean on the deer for me, so I went back to my 308 tack driving savage heavy barrel tactical rifle. Just don't need them big guns. 308 will kill them just as dead from 100-400 as a 7mag or 30'06. I'm thinking the same way marsh. I have been shooting a Steyr 7mm mag for the past fifteen years. Going to a 308 this year because I'm tired of that mule of a rifle. Its heavy, long and will kick the living chit out of you.

I agree with y'all. That 7mag didn't kill 'em any deader than that sweet Tikka .308. That Steyr is like toting a steel I-beam around.

Of the calibers you listed, 30-06 ,even if your disances were longer I wouldn't go with a long , belted magnum, like the 7mm rem mag. Now for the $ Tikka in .308 or 7mm-08. But a 30-06 in the Tikka is a good choice too. .308 or 30-06 shoot a 150-165 grain and enjoy.

I have a custom 7mm Rem Mag that I'll sell you that doesn't kick at all! It only weighs about 6 lbs but has a muzzle brake! Just bring your ear plugs!!!

I have been shooting a Tikka T3 lite in 7 Mag for several years and I lpve it!! No problems at all with accuracy . Don't know how stuck you are on Ballistic tip ammo but I have found mine loves Federal Fusions and after seeing how well they perform on deer I see no reason to shoot anything else. They are much cheaper than most ammo and so far ever deer I have shot with it has been either a bang flop or went just a few yards. I did buy a box of the Hornaday American Whitetail to try this year. Its even cheaper than Fusions.
Lead, follow or get the HELL outa the way!

My .257 Roy is the most accurate gun I own. The ammo is outrageous though ! Anything past 200 yards you need to really know how to dope the wind and compensate for bullet drop. 1-1-1/2" groups at 100 yds will be 3" groups at 200. Stilll more than adequate for deer hunting.
The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.
