How does your strategy change from Mar. 15 throughout the year? Thinking logically, I would assume birds are more focused on planted fields at the beginning of the season due to limited greenup, and then they fade off after. I assume I will begin in and around field edges close to hardwoods, then gradually become more woods focused. Of course, anything and everything can happen on any given hunt. What say you?

Seems like the ones we fool with will be in the woods alot more early and then be around fields more when hens start nesting. They do live standing corn early in the season if you have some of that around though.

Like you said, anything can happen. I try to start where I know birds are and go from there.

In the beggining i usually will only hunt the mornings but I'll hunt all times of the day after the hens start nesting, first of the season they'll be henned up and will usually quit gobbling after they get with their hens, late season when the hens leave them to nest you can get a bird fired up anytime of the day, that's the only thing I do different is hunt different times

Last year in late May I was hunting out west and the birds were flocked back up into summer/fall groups. The gobblers were avoiding hen calls, so I used fall hunting tactics to kill one on the third day. The way you call and approach them is the thing that changes the most from early to late, IMO.

I usually start off hunting AL mountain goat woods, then after striking out 33 times I go to TN gently rolling cow pastures and walk up on flocks of turkeys and bushwack one
