I know it seems a bit early, but based on the cam pics I checked Saturday in the last week the turkeys have started doing their thing. I had some of the best strutting pictures I have ever gotten on a game camera this week had 1 gobbler meeting up with hens everyday last week strutting his stuff in a field and 2 others together with hens across the county rd putting on a show for the ladies 2 different days last week. March 15th can't get here soon enough. Luckily I did see a group of 11 long beards still together on Saturday, so not all of them are ready but if the weather stays warm it is gonna be half way over before it starts. Boy if I had a dollar for every time I've heard this......I'd be killin the slam this year for sure! When I was a single man, I blowed up on every girl I passed too. That don't mean anything. And actually, we ain't but maybe a week or so before breeding will start. It's gonna happen "around" the same time as all the other years. If the warm winter didn't throw them off more than maybe a week last year, this year will be fine. It'll be here and gone before ya know it. Try thinkin bout something else for a while. Good luck with that part.

They do there thing all year. Seen birds strutting in October. The Lbs being together says they aren't ready.
Do you want to hear him gobble, or do you want to kill him.

Gobbler when do your poults usually hit the ground? I'm trying to come up with a number to determine how many days it is from when breeding starts to when hens begin to start laying............ I know they lay an egg prettymuch every day for around 2 weeks and then incubate them for around 28 days before they hatch but I'm wondering how many days (if any) there is between the start of breeding and the first egg.

One of the reasons for the early and excellent hatch last year! you very well may be right about the birds down south, but our birds up here in the north east corner were pretty close as usual, with that being said you can always give or take a week in any given year.Back when our season started April 1st we all complained about not getting to hunt in March when the birds were on fire, but it seems to me that the birds come to the call a little better about the second week of the season,so I just hunt when I can and try to adapt to what they are doing and not worry about early or late.
