How many of you carry a pistol while hunting? If so, belt clip or something diff? What kind of shot?

I was thinking about carrying my 40 cal with a rat shot for snakes. Rattlers are abundant on our mountain.

I just carry a couple dove loads to pop in when I come across a snake. No need for the extra firearm

I feel better in any situation I have ever been in with my turkey gun in hand. There is not an animal or human that a turkey load will not handle anywhere I will be hunting. I had rather have it was my .40 or deer rifle for sure. Hunting on a panther preserve in FL made me second guess that though smile

Anybody ever tried to kill a turkey with a pistol? I'm thinking with TSS a man could do it pretty easy at 20 yards or so.

I would think a pistol would be cumbersome. I'm going to start carrying a dove shell to finish a turkey off if necessary or pesky snakes as required. grin

There was a guy several years ago that had permission to hunt some of the same land I did. He wounded a bird and decided to finish it off with his pistol, but somehow during the struggle he managed to shoot himself through the hand. I imagine it would have been a youtube quality video lol.

Either PCP or B'ham Fred posted a pic where there had shot one with revolver.

head shot with a 255gr lead bullit....

I really want to shoot one with a 40cal muzzleloader(rifle) to the head....may just have to go to Ga where it's legal.

Yeah I know a guy that hunts them with a .357. I was thinking more along the lines of one of those long barreled single shot .410's like a TC Contender.

That would be fun. I'm trying to kill one with a 410 this year.

I've got that same gun Troy (savage 24) but I'm gonna try my luck with a pump.
