Well the time had come for me to do something about the looks of "Grady" my shotgun. He was born dipped in Realtree AP. Over the years the finish was coming off and it was turning white. I wanted it to have the Bottomland camo on it and I dont like the new bottomland. So I copied the stencils that I have and took em to a friend that runs a sign company. He cut a set of stencils out for me that stick on and I was able to fold them around the contours of the gun much easier.

Here is Grady before.

Here it is after I got ahold of it with a media blaster to remove all the old dipping.

Here is what he looks like with a base coat.

Here is a pic of the stick on stencils.

Stencil taped on barrel.

Pic after first stencil is put on and painted.

I must admit I am a little disappointed in the color choice I made on the second coat. (olive) I used it thinking I needed some green in it. As far as the finish it will do until I can get ahold of some duracoat. I plan on doing that after season. I would still like to do bottomland but no one offers a DIY duracoat kit with that pattern. I may do my deer rifle in one of their patterns just to see how it goes then I will see if I will be able to use one of my stick on stencil kits.

If any of you guys like this, my friend will cut the stencils out for you for $20 a set. PM me and I will send you his number.

What do you guys think? Should the basecoat be a darker brown or should I find a different second coat which is the olive green.

Here you go rr. I don't think I'm gonna like em to well. I would rather have something I could adjust windage and elevation.

It looks good but I would vote for a little browner base coat.

Same here, I'd go darker brown on the base coat. But your work and detail is excellent. Will you paint one of my climbing stands for me?

I sure will. You buy the paint and I'll put it on. Where you live.

I am thinking the same thing on the darker brown base coat or maybe use a grey color.

Great offer, thanks! But, if you're in pisgah, then we are on opposite ends of the state. Oh well. Keep up the good work.

Do you want to hear him gobble, or do you want to kill him.
