I have an uncle that hunts quite a bit. He almost never wears a camo clothing at all. He might wear a camo jacket if it's really cold or some bibs that he got as a gift cause it's raining. He swears that Camo clothing makes no difference in hunting deer. I don't argue with him as his barn is full of really nice racks from bucks he has taken over the years.

He doesn't hunt from shooting houses all the time either. He sits on the ground most often and he kills one or two really good bucks every year and could shoot all the does he wants. Blue jeans or Carthart pants and a flanel shirt, fleece or anything else he has on is what he hits the woods with.

I would say pretty good in the turkey woods. Deer not so much.

Do you want to hear him gobble, or do you want to kill him.

I wear it most of the time. Occasionally I Will just decide on a moment I want to hunt, and camo May not be available. I haven't noticed any difference. As long as you are concealed, motionless, and quiet you can kill deer in a pink dress.

I hunt in a pair of camp pants and solid green or brown long sleeve shirt and deer never seem to mind. My brother hunts in carhart pants and shirts. No camo and hasn't stopped killing deer. Turkeys are a different story.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

My phone screen does not always work right, usually a lot of misspelled words....

Without any shadow of a doubt in Turkey Hunting Camo is a Must for sure.

But I used to have a very large difference of opinion with my uncle when I was a teenager about the need for camo while deer hunting, but as I have grown up I am starting to see that he makes a very good point and it doesn't seem to effect his results at all by not wearing camo clothing.

Camo is expensive and I have bought a lot of it over the years.

my personal opinion, camo does not make a huge difference for gun hunters. may help bow hunters more.
management and trigger control may account more for us being in a "golden age" of deer hunting than technology, including modern camo. you can have all the technology you want and still won't kill a mature buck if he's not there.

I agree with most all of these statements. There are a lot of times when I'm deer hunting I don't wear much camo at all. I usually do when bowhunting though. I always wear full camo turkey hunting, but don't think it's a must. I was brought up in the turkey woods by 2 of my older uncles. They were and 1 still is turkey killing machines. One of them would usually wear some camo, but never gloves and mask. The other one; the first time I went with him and he picked me up, he had on blue jeans and a purple t shirt with an old army button up shirt that he carried with him. I ask if he forgot his camo, his reply "it's called woodsmanship! I use trees to get behind and terrain to cover me until they will be close enough for a shot". Like I said he kills a bunch of birds, but I still wear full camo. They sure did teach me a lot about turkey hunting though.

#1 - I've come to believe the camo is the biggest rip-off when it comes to deer hunting, at least where I hunt. Let me rephrase that; I think 90% of camo is bullchit and the other 10% MAY help a little.

#2 - Scent, sound and movement count much more than camo.

I do make a point of wearing old faided clothing in muted colors and the little bit of camo I have is old and washed out too. If I don't see deer or don't get a good shot at one it was not because of camo. (See #2 above)

I wear what is comfortable, warm and quiet and try to be as scent free as possible. Most of my hunting clothes consists of insulated carhart bibs with a warm jacket or pullover thrown over.

I've heard that you kill more deer wearing Under Armour or Scent Lok clothing. Bone Collector attire works good too! grin

The older I get the more I realize how much money I've wasted on camo chasing deer! I like the dark brown Carthart bibs for comfort and they blend in with the hardwoods.

I'm wearing my brown carhartt bibs down here at the Sealy farm right now. Everybody is all decked out in camo and we are sitting in shooting houses I can't figure out why you need camo for a shooting house

We will burn that bridge when we get there

Buddy of mine has killed more deer (and gooduns) in jeans and a carhartt jacket than I have killed in my entire hunting career...

You know who you are......

You don't need camo while deer hunting. Especially if you are sitting in a box. But when I climb, I don't like having the tree rats bark at me. I also like watching the turkeys without them spotting me. So, I at least take my orange off, whether I have on camo or not.
