Shot what looked to be a good 8 point around 5pm, with a muzzle loader at about 300+ yards. trailed deer for about 800 yards. Good blood, hand size spots of blood about every 4 feet. Deer bedded down at one point, blood in a 2 foot circle. I followed deer for another 400 yards, found what looked to be plart of a lung, or a large blood clot, about size of golf ball. jumped deer about 30 yards from me. This was about 7:30 pm. My question is would you go back out in 3 or 4 hours or wait until the morning to try to find the deer? Will the meat still be good in the morning also? Low is 36 tonight where I live. Thanks.

300+ yards with a muzzle loader? Is that normal? I have one and 150 seems like a long way to me. Get a dog to go find him in the morning....meat should be fine.

Might want to check on toting that buckshot after Jan 15. Was thinking that it went out with dog season.

Yeah, that's a long shot, but have my gun set up that way. I have that shot behind my house.

That's why I'd be out there around 1100 tonight if there's that much blood.

Not trying to start an argument, but why are you using a muzzle loader at that range? I understand some of them will make that shot, but for me that's a long shot with my .280 and 25 power scope. Just asking, not trying to argue. Hope you find him.

Dropped my rifle a few days ago. Haven't had a chance to check my scope.

FOUND HIM!!! Not 50 yards from where my son and I jumped him last. Checked the range on the shot this morning, 264 yards!!! Bullet made a complete pass through. 8 point with 1 1/4 sticker at base. Thanks for everyone's help! I'll try to post picks later.
