I saw a fawn right at dark, but it and the spike was it for me... My Dad had a doe come out on him at 5:00. She was acting crazy and a good buck came charging out of the thicket after her. Dad shot at the buck as he ran by after the doe (40 yds or so from him in a green field). Dad felt really good about the shot, so we began tracking after dark. The first 50-75 yds was great (as fast as you could walk), but the next 50 yds was tough tracking through a swampy thicket of 6 year old planted pines. The blood trail got better, but we jumped the buck about 150 yds later. By this time, he'd made it into a swampy thicket near a big creek. When we jumped the buck, he went to the creek and we found a steady blood trail going down to the water. Where we jumped him, he was bleeding out both sides and there was a big basketball-sized pool of blood on each side of where he was laying...we backed out, so hopefully he'll be laying close by tomorrow Dad thinks it is this buck:

Well, we got lucky!!! We got to the creek where we stopped tracking the buck last night and looked on the other creek bank forever without any luck - couldn't find tracks, blood, nothing. There was a good deer trail going through the thicket across the creek, so I walked that trail and found one speck of blood about 50 yds off of the creek. I kept going down the trail and found another speck about 50 yds later, but that was it...we were just about to give up when Dad started hollering! He walked up on the buck about 100 yds from the last speck of blood. Dad actually wounded this deer a couple of weeks ago, but come to find out, he hit the buck really low and we lost blood on him... 8 pt w/17" inside spread Bullet hole from a couple of weeks ago - low shoulder
