Looking for a new bow stand. Top 3 seem to be Treewalker, summit open shot (or the new one with tubes ) , and the new Ol Man Drone. Any advice? Have used all but the Treewalker. Drone looks sweet but afraid that retracting device could rust or fail after many seasons. Primarily looking for lightweight, climbing high and relatively small stand. Bow hunting only. Like to face tree at times.

Bunch of people on here swear by Treewalkers. I've heard too many horror stories about ol man. I love my summits.

Same here LOVE MY SUMMIT. I've heard to many horror stories about the ol mans. Tree walker seems to be real popular on here, I have never used one do I can't judge. My only complaint about them would be the pins the cables on the summit are much easier and faster for me to set up in the dark.

I loved my old man i did scrape my arms on the side on the tree once but that was my fault. But the only other stand I ever had was a cougar claw man talk about a death trap

Summit was imported, they were supposedly going to start making stands in Decatur but not sure if they ever did follow through.

Ol' Man, no way in hell.

If I were shopping for a tree stand, I would go to the cpsc.gov website and look up the recalls that company has. I can guarantee you that for the tree stand and safety harness recalls over 90% of the time the country of origin/manufacture is China.

Then while you are shopping and see a stand you like and it has Made in China stamped on it, ask yourself if you really want to put your life in the hands of some prison labor of communist china.
If you can read all the recalls and lawsuits against stands made in China and still want to put your life in their hands then march on.

I ve got an ol Man and a summit my next one will be a TreeWalker. Sat in one at an Expo and I was very impressed. American Made also.

I got one and love it. It is bigger and lighter than any Summit.
All Treewalkers come with a 350 lb weight limit, thats 50lbs more than any other stands. They are made by a family in Tn.
If you get one you'll regret not getting it sooner.

Sounds like tree walkers are worth checking out. Have they been around long? What are the problems with Ol Man? One of mine is 19 years old and I've never had an issue with it.

Well I just googled the Ol man recall. I have hunted out of two different ol man stands for a very long time - probably 20 times a year - and had no idea! I don't see how the pins could could come out but I guess thats beside the point. The articles definitely got me thinking ... With a couple small kids of my own it almost makes me rethink climbing at all, which is pretty much impossible where I bow hunt. Better stay in that harness.

WHAT KIND AND HOW MUCH

I just got my Tree Walker last week. I have hunted from it on hardwood and I'm very happy with my purchase. I only bowhunt also and am a big guy but no problem with the Pro Mag LT. I strongly recommend getting the bow holder they offer instead of the chill press pad. Mr Jerry with tree Walker was great to work with on making my decision of which stand. They are large but LIGHT. I was just telling my wife how my backpack was heavier than the climber. TREEWALKER!!!

I have a Treewalker now. Will never set foot in another Ol man. Also have a brand new Summit viper elite sd and Titan sd. All of them stay at home because I can't keep from grabbing my Treewalker. The best I have ever used.

LDW, most of those accidents/incidents with the Ol Man are the ones manufactured in China. The original ones made in Mississippi are good. If you are using the same one from 19 years ago, you are using American made. I still have one as well. With that being said, I only use it when my son is with me. All other times I grab the Treewalker. Much lighter and there is NO tree I won't climb with it! It's the cat's meow!

As mentioned above, the owners of the company are great to work with! You actually talk to them if you call. If I ever buy another it will be a treewalker.

Another vote for treewalker. Bought the pro mag 3 years ago and it is the most stable stand I've ever climbed with. Only down side is that it will sap up a pine pretty quick, but it will not slip. I've even climbed hickorys and it will not budge.

I've been a Treewalker fan for years, I did see a Drone that a club memeber had purchased it by far is as close to the original quality, workmanship and features of the Ol Man might have to try one for a back up

I have a Summit Viper and a Treewalker. The Summit has a better cabling system and is comfortable; but the Treewalker is much roomier, weighs less,is just as comfortable, and will climb ANYTHING. If I could only have one, I would go with my Treewalker. They only thing I don't like as well is the pin system on the Treewalker verse the locking cable on the Summit.
