.....Well, I got back last week. I spent 5 weeks in Alaska during August guiding grizzly bears, caribou, and Dall's sheep and I never got around to posting pictures or a story on here about that trip. I didn't want to wait around on this trip and not get around to doing it either. As some of you know, I lease 8400 acres in one tract in North Central Nebraska and I have had that lease for the last 5 years. I also have an outfitter that I book hunts for in North West Nebraska that has over 30,000 acres. On my place I have whitetail, mule deer, and Merriam's turkey. I took 10 hunters to my lease near Valentine last week. We killed 11 bucks by the end of day 3 and only have one hunter that hadn't fired a shot. We hunted the fourth day for him with no luck but on the 5th afternoon he finally connected. I also shot another buck that day and one hunter took a doe. The first morning, Saturday (Opening Day), was in the 20's, clear and calm. By lunch we had 3" of snow. The only deer killed the first day was at daylight and it was the best whitetail we have taken to date since I have had the lease. I haven't gotten a chance to put a tape on him but he is going to be in the 160's as a clean 10-point and he has 4 stickers that will add up to 7-9" of antler. Our rough best guess is 172" gross. The lucky hunter is a good friend's son and he is an Anniston Police Officer. The next morning the weather report was supposed to be 7 and winds to 25mph. I took two trucks, 4 hunters, up into the hills to look for mule deer again. The other 6 guys were going to hunt the bottoms but the weather report kept them in bed. Once we got out to the ranch and saw all the deer activity and no wind I called the guys at the hotel and they made there way to the ranch. The got into the stands around 10 and stayed all day. These deer were taken on day 2: The weather on day 3 was very similar and there deer started acting right. The problem was, most everyone had killed their deer at that time.

On day three we shot a few more deer. I sat in a ground blind near a river canyon that is very difficult to hunt. I have an "accident" near dark. I shot the deer below thinking he was better than he was. Day 3: Only four of us hunted on day four. The guy that hadn't had his chance wanted to go up into the hills with me so I loaded him into my truck and off we went. Two other guys went back to the river bottom to hunt stands hoping to catch bucks chasing does. No deer were killed on day 4. This is what we had at the end of day 3: Not too bad for 3 days. Four of us went out on day 5. I went into the hills to hunt for sharp-tailed grouse. Of course I had a big gun but I wanted some grouse to put into the freezer. Three guys went into the bottoms. One looking for his first buck, one looking to better his buck, and one for a doe for the freezer. The guy that hadn't shot finally got his chance and connected with a nice 8-point. Keep in mind, the guy in the picture is 300+ pounds. That deer had a huge body. We were on the way out and came across this mule deer. I passed him at first because he looked young. His necked looked like a softball but his body was normal size. When I saw him at 170 yards I thought he was a young deer with great potential. I thought he was a 2x1. He walked into some pines so we headed towards him. We got to within 80 yards and after looking at him again I knew something was wrong but I wasn't sure what. When I shot this deer he had antlers. When I walked up on him, he didn't. He flopped around after the shot and his antlers were laying under him. He his balls were the size of a cigarette butt.

I'm not sure what's up with the sideways pics. They are horizontal on my Photobucket page. I have tried to flip them with no luck.
You can either turn your head sideways or maybe someone smarter than me can figure it out.

Wow!!! You're not only a hellofa guide, you're a GREAT photographer too!!!
No balls, huh? That must be a deer from France.
Thanks for sharing!!
Oh, the picture of your "mistake" buck... well, that took balls to admit and show! Hey, we all make mistakes and it's not a big deal in my book.
